Biodiversity and Nature Play Project
Our Visit to Trinity Gardens PS on 19/10/15
Trinity Gardens School
On Monday 19th October I got the chance to go to Trinity Gardens School to check out their nature play project. Our school got the chance to check it out and luckily I was able to get the opportunity to check it out. Once we got to the school we went to the library to listen to a presentation. Their school had heaps of ideas for the nature play project. Some of my favourite ideas were their cubby building area because it would give the students a chance to use their creativity and start building. Another good idea was the quarry because you could use your digging skills to dig a giant hole. The last reason I liked going to Trinity Gardens School was because of the idea of their frog ponds because you get the chance to learn more about frogs and get an extra education to learn about frogs.
Trinity Gardens
On the 19th October, 6 students for Woodend were selected to visit Trinity Gardens Primary School. We went to see their nature play activities that they have added to their school over the past couple of years.
When we went to Trinity Gardens we saw cubby building areas, frog ponds, a big lizard bench, snail mosaics, climbing frames, chin up bars, above ground logs, playground hammocks, spinning poles, levelled rocks and lots of plants.
Our favourite things were cubby building areas, frog ponds, lizard bench, playground hammocks, spinning poles and the above ground logs. We would like these things to be added in our school.
To improve these things we would use more natural materials like wood, rather than the rubber and metals. There was something for each age group to do in the yard.
We liked going to Trinity Gardens. We hope we can do something like this again.

Trinity Gardens Ideas
What I thought was good about Trinity Gardens was basically everything! I really liked how they built bridges from tree logs. I loved the fact that the science teacher brought interesting rocks and old metal pots an saucepans to leave in the playground for kids to play with. Another great thing about Trinity Gardens is how they trust kids to be responsible enough o play with sticks and stones without being silly and I think we would be able to trust students at our school as well.
One of the things I saw at Trinity Gardens that I thought we could do at Woodend were the log bridges. Then I thought we could get some more wood and sticks so kids could build bigger shelters. Next I thought that we could build big dirt mounds and cover them in bark and build some stairs on the mounds with rocks.
I thought everything was great but we would need to make sure everything is safe so nobody can get hurt.
Trinity Gardens Nature Play
On the 19th of October 2015, six kids (including me) were chosen to go to Trinity Gardens Primary School and have a look at their nature play project so we could get ideas on how to improve our nature play project at Woodend Primary School. We went with our principal and deputy principal, Brian Marshall and Jane-Ann Natar. We saw many good ideas for our nature play project such as frog ponds, wood and sticks for children to build cubbies, climbing logs and logs to sit on. There were some ideas that Woodend already had like climbing logs but it was a great opportunity to see Trinity Gardens’ nature play project and Woodend definitely wants to do a great job with our nature play too. Going to Trinity Gardens gave us the adrenaline to work as hard as we can to make our nature play project the best it could possibly be. Woodend has made a path, a climbing wall and a gate around the school to improve our school. Trinity Gardens has gotten many more students since the nature play project and it would be a great opportunity to have more students at Woodend Primary School and we hope to engage with students in the future. Kids are very excited to see how our nature play project will be when it is finished and everyone is happy to help. We find it very important to make our nature play project as safe as possible so children won’t be in any danger at school. We also saw that Trinity Gardens had added more plants around the oval and we will take everything we saw at Trinity Gardens into consideration. I loved having the opportunity to go to Trinity Gardens and I am happy to help out with our nature play project as much as I can, along with other students at our school.
